Jaisalmer Government Museum


This museum, established by the Department of Archeology and Museums, is a major attraction for tourists visiting Jaisalmer. The most prominent is the trophy of the state bird of Rajasthan 'Godavan' displayed here. Traditional household objects, rock-cut crockery, jewelry, and statues of 7th and 9th century AD display the remains of the city's rich cultural heritage.

Established in 1984 by the Department of Archeology, the museum provides a glimpse into the traditional and cultural heritage of the Great Thar Desert. Various paintings, coins, stone sculptures, etc. are displayed in the museum. The museum has a rare collection of mi fossils in wood, limestone, and sandstone. Some rare archaeological discoveries such as the 12th-century statues of Kirudu and Lodurwa townships also appear here.
